About Montenegro
The Republic of Montenegro, newly created in 2006, is located in South-eastern Europe between Croatia, Albania and Serbia. Montenegro has an unbelievably beautiful coast on the Adriatic sea taking in the stunning Bay of Kotor and the Budva Riviera.
The country's native name is Crna Gora, which translates literally to black mountain or black forest so a large part of Montenegro is covered with mountains (highest - Mount Durmitor at 2,522m) and thick forests with high peaks along its borders with Kosovo and Albania including some of the most rugged terrain in Europe.
Montenegro's dramatic scenery and legendary hospitality are unquestionably real, as you'll confirm when you have explored a country, still waiting to be rediscovered.
Tailor Made Holidays
Holidays in Montenegro offer such a dramatic contrast of locations for a small country so it is ideal for a fly drive, even over a short duration such as one week. There are many flights into Dubrovnik which is ideal for the Bay of Kotor and the Budva area of Montenegro's stunning coastline but there are now also flights directly to Tivat (near Budva) or you may even consider arriving on the fabulously scenic rail line from Belgrade which passes through Podgorica on its way to the coast at Bar.
There are many monasteries around the country, some quite near the main routes but others a little way off the beaten track; most notably are Morača, Sveta Trojica, Đurđevi stupovi and Ostrog - one of the world's greatest shrines. There are also St. Trifun Cathedral, the Curch of Our Lady of the Rocks in Kotor Bay and Hussein-Pasha's Mosque in Pljevlja which stand out for their unique beauty.
It is also hard to resist the charm of medieval towns and fortresses on the Montenegrin coast such as Budva, Kotor, Perast, Bar and Ulcinj. As you explore you will encounter such a heady mix of Byzantine, Romanesque, Gothic and Baroque styles of architecture. The city of Kotor is, as part of the world cultural heritage, under UNESCO's protection.
We look forward to being of service.
