Grand Tour of Romania – The Best of a Remarkable Country
This Grand Tour of Romania is a journey through the country’s most captivating regions — from the medieval towns and forested mountains of Transylvania to the rustic wooden villages of Maramureș, the sacred painted monasteries of Bucovina, the tranquil waterways of the Danube Delta, and the vibrant energy of Bucharest, Romania’s dynamic capital. It’s a holiday of contrasts: wild nature and elegant cities, ancient traditions and modern culture — the very best of Romania in one unforgettable adventure.
Travel through the Carpathian Mountains, past fortified churches, castles and Saxon towns such as Brașov, Sighișoara and Sibiu. Continue north into Maramureș, a region often described as an open-air museum, where wooden churches, rolling hills and horse-drawn carts are part of daily life. Cross into Bucovina, where the UNESCO-listed Painted Monasteries of Voroneț, Humor, and Sucevița display vivid frescoes unique in Europe. Finally, contrast the rural calm with the pristine wilderness of the Danube Delta, a paradise for birdlife and one of Europe’s last great wetlands, before returning to Bucharest, a cosmopolitan capital full of leafy boulevards, Belle Époque architecture and lively cafés.
This route showcases Romania’s incredible diversity — history, folklore, traditional crafts, wildlife, and gastronomy — all within one grand circular journey. You’ll experience landscapes that shift from mountain passes and alpine meadows to vineyards, medieval villages, and shimmering lakes.
