About Naxos
Naxos is the largest and greenest island in the Cyclades, celebrated for its fertile plains, rugged mountains, and long, sun-drenched coastline. The island blends history, culture, and stunning natural beauty, making it perfect for discerning travellers seeking both relaxation and exploration.
Naxos Town (Chora), with its Venetian heritage, is a delight to explore. Wander through the Kastro, a maze of narrow streets, covered alleyways, and charming houses built by Venetian families centuries ago. The town’s iconic Portara, a 6th-century marble archway, offers breathtaking sunset views and glimpses of neighbouring islands including Paros, Delos, Mykonos, and Syros. Legend has it that a wish made here may come true.
Beyond the town, Naxos offers some of Europe’s finest beaches:
Agios Prokopios, just 5 km from Naxos Town, stretches for 2 kilometres with fine golden sand backed by soft dunes. Part of the beach is organised with sunbeds and umbrellas, while quieter sections remain natural and peaceful. The resort has a good selection of restaurants, shops, and bars, making it ideal for a full day by the sea.
St George, only a 5–10 minute walk from Naxos Town, is a lively beach resort with shallow waters, perfect for families and novice swimmers. Visitors can enjoy water sports and a variety of beachfront tavernas and cafés, creating a relaxed yet vibrant atmosphere.
Inland, Naxos rewards exploration. Fertile plains produce potatoes and support livestock farming, while the mountains are dotted with wildflowers, herbs, and aromatic plants such as rosemary and sage, offering endless opportunities for scenic drives and photography. Renting a car is highly recommended to fully appreciate the island’s hidden corners and authentic villages.
Naxos perfectly combines rich history, natural beauty, and authentic Greek life, offering a memorable escape for those seeking both cultural immersion and seaside relaxation.
