About Stavros
Stavros is a charming seaside village just 15 km from Chania, perfect for a relaxed coastal escape. The village is flanked by two wide sandy beaches on either side of its narrow headland, offering plenty of space for swimming, sunbathing, or simply enjoying the Aegean views. Along the seafront, you’ll find a welcoming selection of restaurants, tavernas, cafés, and bars, ideal for sampling local flavours or enjoying a sunset drink.
The village is also famous for its dramatic backdrop: the steep mountain opposite the harbour is legendary as the filming location for “Zorba the Greek” (1964), where Anthony Quinn danced the iconic Sirtaki. It’s a perfect photo opportunity and a fun piece of cinematic history to discover.
For those who love exploring inland, the Akrotiri peninsula is a haven for nature enthusiasts. Hiking trails wind through fragrant pine forests and olive groves, passing ancient ruins and historic monasteries along the way. Whether you’re seeking gentle walks, history, or just time by the sea, Stavros offers a delightful combination of beachside charm, culture, and scenic landscapes.
