About Litochoro
At the foot of legendary Mount Olympus, home of the twelve ancient Greek gods, lies the charming town of Litochoro. Perched at an altitude of 300 metres beside the Enipeas River, it boasts stunning views of the Thermaikos Gulf and the towering peaks of Olympus, offering a perfect blend of mountain and sea.
Olympus National Park, Greece’s first national park established in 1938, is a natural wonder. Home to over 1,700 plant species, 32 mammals, and more than 100 bird species, it was declared a UNESCO biosphere reserve in 1981. Hiking enthusiasts will delight in the park’s trails, waterfalls, and dramatic landscapes.
The town itself dates back to the 14th century and retains its picturesque charm. Stroll along narrow alleyways and shaded squares, and visit the beautiful churches of Agia Paraskevi and Profitis Ilias.
Just 5 kilometres from Litochoro lies the sacred city of Dion, where ongoing archaeological excavations reveal treasures of ancient Macedonia. Nearby, the Valley of Tempi, where Zeus is said to have courted the Nine Muses, offers dramatic scenery, while the Macedonian Kings’ Tombs of Vergina lie only 80 kilometres away.
Litochoro is an ideal destination for walkers, nature lovers, and those seeking a combination of history, culture, and breathtaking landscapes.
